Marilyn Elizabeth (Neal) Rhoades passed away with family at her side at 3:00 a.m. on Sunday, March 16, 2014 at her home in Vandalia. Marilyn was a 1963 graduate of Van-Far High School and lived in Vandalia until 1981. At that time she started working at the Maple Lawn Nursing Home in Palmyra and lived in that area until 1995. Marilyn then moved back to Vandalia and worked from 1998 to 2008 at the Tri-County Care Center and received her CNA while there. She had been worshipping at the Spencer Creek Baptist Church with her sisters and enjoyed several hobbies. Marilyn was an active participant in the area cancer walks, enjoyed crochet, scrapbooking, her photo albums and reading about the Amish. In years past, she enjoyed going camping with Roger.
Born: April 25, 1945 in Vandalia the daughter of William Cloyd and Violet Elizabeth (Horton) Neal Sr.
Married: Roger Rhoades in Palmyra, Missouri on February 12, 1988; he preceded her in death.
Survivors include: one son, Michael G. Jacobs and Rachel Crane of Palmyra; three daughters: Tracy J. Foster of Decatur, Illinois; Tricia M. and husband, Scott Deien of St. Charles, Missouri; Robyn E. Hobbs of Vandalia; two brothers: Billy and wife, Linda Neal of New Bern, North Carolina; Mike Neal of Mexico, Missouri; four sisters: Nelva Owens of Bowling Green, Missouri; Barbara and husband, Allen Snodgrass of rural Vandalia; Karolyn and husband, Bob Green of rural Vandalia and Nena Neal of Vandalia; also survived by eight grandchildren: Breena Crane, Megan Jacobs, Jessica Ruiz, Jacob Deien, Ella Deien, Dillion Caldwell, Makayla Flowers and McKenna Flowers; three great-grandchildren: Adilei, Maci and Tayte; several nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by: parents; husband, Roger; one brother, Nelson Neal in 2007; one sister, Sharon J. Neal in 2013; one granddaughter, Kristie Jo Davis in 1993.
Memorials are encouraged to Ellis Fischel Cancer Research Hospital.
