Vinston "Vince" Edward Kampeter, age 95, of Farber, MO passed away at 2:49 pm Friday, February 14, 2020, at University Hospital in Columbia, MO.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11:00 am Monday, February 17, 2020, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Vandalia. Father Henry Ussher will officiate. Burial with full military honors provided by the Missouri Military Funeral Honors will be in the Evergreen Memorial Gardens following the service.
Visitation celebrating Vince’s life will be held 9:00 am until the time of service Monday, February 17, 2020, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Vandalia.
Vince was born on October 21, 1924, in Argyle, Missouri the son of Herman and Rose (Wieberg) Kampeter.
He was united in marriage to Alice Lee Terry on October 21, 1944 at St John's Catholic Church in Laddonia, MO. She preceded him in death on November 28, 2014.
Survivors include his two daughters, Charlene and husband, Barry Garrett of Columbia and Nancy E. Burnett of Vandalia; one son, Ed and wife, Penny Kampeter of rural Curryville; three siblings, Emil (Gladys) Kampeter, Gus (Johnna Sue) Kampeter and Fronie Corl all of Jefferson City; seven grandchildren, Tricia Kampeter of Vandalia, Travis (Mindy) Kampeter of Eldon, Jessica (Danny) Howald of Center, Jeff Garrett of O'Fallon, Lindsey (Travis) Bedford of Lake St. Louis, Allison (Danny) Vaughan of Wardsville, Benny (Sarah) Burnett of Vandalia; 16 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Herman and Rose Kampeter; wife, Alice L. Kampeter; two stillborn sons, Eaddy Lee and John Herman Kampeter; two brothers, Roman Kampeter and Vic Kampeter; three sisters, Lucy Drinkard, Lorene Pauley and Mary Ann Miller; one son-in-law, Rodney Burnett and one grandson, Dan Garrett.
Vince was a life-long Farber area resident and a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Vandalia. He honorably served in the United States Army from March of 1945 to January of 1947. After returning home from serving overseas in Korea in the United States Army, Vince went to work at North American Refectories until his retirement in 1990. He was very passionate about his community and supporting the Farber Volunteer Fire Department. Vince enjoyed gardening, playing cards and watching the St. Louis Cardinals. He loved farming for family and friends, going to church, and traveling with his wife and grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Travis Kampeter, Benny Burnett, Jeff Garrett, Danny Vaughan, Ryan Lower, Danny Howald and Travis Bedford.
Memorial contributions may be made to Farber Volunteer Fire Department or Sacred Heart Catholic Church, in the care of Waters Funeral Home.
