Interment will be in the Evergreen Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Vandalia, Missouri.
Pallbearers: Wade Atkinson, Shawn Atkinson, Bill Gooch, Kevin Motley, Merle Lee Culwell and Kenny Mollett. Honorary pallbearers: Wayne Atkinson and Johnny Kohl.

Ruth Evelyn Atkinson passed away at 5:42 a.m. on Sunday, February 10, 2008 at the Southwest Christian Hospice Care Center in Union City, Georgia after a brief illness. Ruth was a Vandalia High School graduate and long-time member of the First Christian Church in Vandalia where she taught the two year-old class for 20 years. Ruth worked at several Vandalia businesses and was general manager of Bill's Dollar Store in Vandalia for ten years. She served as school teacher at Prairie Lane School, was a 4-H leader for Brice Happy Hustlers 4-H Club and was active in Brice Friendly Neighbors Club.

Born: November 12, 1927 in rural Vandalia, Missouri the daughter of Raymond D. and Ruby (Maxwell) Motley.

Married: E. Lowell Atkinson on May 24, 1947 in Vandalia, Missouri; he preceded her in death on January 14, 2000.

Survivors include: two sons: Edwin L. and wife, Melanie Atkinson of Newnan, Georgia and Dennis R. and wife, Karen Atkinson of Warrenton, Missouri; grandchildren: Tara Atkinson and Shawn Atkinson of Newnan, Georgia; Wade and wife, Jodi Atkinson of Olathe, Kansas; Deanna Atkinson and fiancee, Byron Brown of Mexico, Missouri; Erin Atkinson of St. Charles, Missouri; one great-granddaughter, Hanna Lee Brown of Mexico, Missouri; three brothers, Roger and wife, Lois Motley of Mexico, Missouri; Rudolph and wife, Leigh Motley of Vandalia, Missouri and Ronald Motley of Vandalia, Missouri; one sister, Rowena and husband, L. E. Kohl of Vandalia, Missouri; also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by: husband, Lowell; parents; two brothers, Robert Motley and Reginald Motley; three sisters, Ramona Gooch, Rheva Cragen and Regina Motley.
