Service:

Saturday, August 17, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at Waters Funeral Chapel.
Officiating will be: Rev. Glenn Forman.
Music provided by: Sharon Hoehn - pianist.
Interment will be in the Farber Cemetery.
Pallbearers: Scott Nilges, Sean Nilges, Lucas Nilges, Allison Griggsby, Brianne Griggsby and Garrett Day. Honorary pallbearers: Leland Griggsby, Rob Reynolds, Stephen Nilges, Hayden Day, Jessica Nilges and Tyson Hull.

Robert Edward Day passed away unexpectedly at 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday, August 14, 2013 at the family's home in Vandalia. Bob attended schools in Mexico and after school, he moved to the St. Louis area. For over 12 years he drove a truck for Warren Brothers Asphalt Company and he drove a cab in St. Louis for several years. Bob then worked at D & H Auto Repair for four years then was co-owner of a Texaco Station in St. Louis for five years. He and Mary moved to the Farber area in 1983. Bob attended the Farber Baptist Church and enjoyed several hobbies. He competitively raced his car at the drag races in the St. Louis area for 30 years. Bob was an avid Cardinal baseball fan and NASCAR fan. He also enjoyed fishing, watching and reading old Westerns. While in Farber, Bob rebuilt many car and truck engines.

Born: June 6, 1939 in Mexico, Missouri the son of Richard Vorhesse and Lucretia Estella (Fox) Day.

Married: Mary Elizabeth Simms on June 30, 1962 in Leadwood, Missouri.

Survivors include: wife, Mary of Vandalia; one son, Thomas D. and wife, Stephanie Day of Vandalia; two daughters: LuAnn and husband, Stephen Nilges of Farber; Robyn E. Day and Leland Griggsby of Vandalia; one brother, James V. Day of Farber; two sisters: Nancy Musgrove of Mexico, Missouri and Judy Martin of Benton City; eight grandchildren: Scott and wife Jessica Nilges, Sean Nilges, Lucas Nilges, Allison Griggsby, Brianne Griggsby, Garrett Day and Hayden Day; also survived by several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Preceded in death by: grandparents; one son, Robert E. Day Jr.; four brothers: Billy J. Day, Thomas R. Day, C. C. Day and Howard D. Day; five sisters: Dorothy B. Spencer, Norma L. Jones, Mildred L. Day, Betty J. Holiday and Marjorie A. Keniston; one grandson, Cody Nilges.

Memorials are encouraged to the American Heart Association.
