Richard "Dickie" Owen Hicks passed away at 5:32a.m. on Friday, July15, 2016 at the University Hospital and Clinics in Columbia. He attended school in Fulton, graduating in 1961 from the Missouri School for the Deaf. Shortly after school, Dickie worked at the Florsheim Shoe Factory in Mexico for nearly eight years. He then began working as a grader operator for the Vandalia Special Road District. Dickie retired from the Road District in 2008 after 30 years of service. Dickie lived most of his adult life in the Vandalia and Laddonia area. He attended the First Baptist Church in Vandalia and enjoyed a variety of hobbies. Dickie enjoyed watching Mizzou football and basketball and was an avid NASCAR/Carl Edwards fan. He had a special interest in trains and was an excellent carpenter and auto mechanic. Dickie also enjoyed photography, gardening, flowers and spending time with his daughters and grandchildren.
Born: November23, 1941 in Mexico, Missourithe son of Houston Welch and Ina Mae (Nation) Hicks.
Married: Linda Sue Stanford in Laddonia, Missouri on June21, 1968.
Survivors include: two daughters: Michelle L. and husband, Gary Brock of Montgomery City; Kimberly A. and husband, Russell Greenlaw of Boonville; one brother, Bill and wife, LindaHicks of Vandalia; longtime friend, Linda Sue Edwards of Vandalia; five grandchildren: Myah Brock, Gavin Brock, Brittany Greenlaw, Stephanie Clark and Rusty Greenlaw; two great-grandchildren: Beau Greenlaw and Charlotte Folkman; one niece, Melissa and husband, Tom Culwell of Vandalia; one nephew, Mark and wife, Jill Hicks of Hannibal.
Preceded in death by: parents.
Memorials are encouraged to the Missouri School for the Deaf.
