Renee I. Horton, age 66, of Curryville, MO passed away at 5:38 am Friday, January 8, 2021, at the Harry S. Truman Memorial Veterans' Hospital in Columbia, Missouri.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am Saturday, January 16, 2021 at Waters Funeral Home in Vandalia. Father Francis Doyle will officiate. Burial with full military honors provided by the United States Marines and American Legion Post #510 of Laddonia, MO will be held at the Vandalia Cemetery following the service.
A visitation celebrating the life of Renee I. Horton will be held from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm Friday, January 15, 2021 at the Waters Funeral Home.
Renee was born on October 6, 1954, in East St. Louis, Illinois the daughter of Jean (Stevensmeyer) Haislip.
Survivors include her mother; two sons, Ronnie (Rhiannion) Woods of Mexico, MO and Jack (Shannon) Woods of Vandalia, MO; one brother, Jack Bruns, Jr. of Columbia, MO; two grandsons, Zachary Woods and JeanAdyh Rich; two granddaughters, Chloe Rich and Taylor Davis; and one great-grandson, Julian Miller.
Renee attended high school at Montgomery City High School and honorably served in the United States Marines from 1972 to 1974. Renee was a hard worker and was committed to her community. After returning from her military services she worked at Harbison Walker Brick Plant. She then became a police officer and dispatcher for the City of Vandalia, EMT for the Van-Far Ambulance District, and then a Jailer and Deputy for the Audrain Sheriff's Office. After leaving the Sheriff's Office, she worked at NARCO until it closed. Renee owned Horton Kennels. She was also a Bail Bondsman for Woods Bonding and best known for doing tax preparation for H&R Block in Louisiana, MO. Renee loved playing with her dogs and rescuing animals. She also enjoyed eating mexican food, hunting, dirt track racing, old cars especially her son Ronnie's 55 Chevy Bel Air but nothing brought her more joy in life then spending time with her two son's, grandson and great grandson "little man".
Pallbearers will be Rodney Martin, Ryan Robnett, Kendall Groves, Craig Roden, Barry White and Jordan Jones
Memorial contributions may be made to the donors choice, in care of Waters Funeral Home.
