Jeffrey Lane Mims Sr. passed away at 4:40 a.m. Saturday morning, December 9, 2016 at SSM St. Mary's Audrain in Mexico. He grew up in the Quincy area and was a 1979 Quincy High School graduate. Jeff worked in construction for several years and became an associate minister at the Garden Addition Baptist Church in Oklahoma City. He was installed as the minister of Second Missionary Baptist Church in Vandalia in March of 2004. Jeff also worked at Green Supply in Vandalia along with his pastoral work. He was the current president of the Vandalia Ministerial Alliance, co-founding member of the singing group, "The Chosen Few" in Oklahoma City. Pastor Jeff owned and operated the Music Maker's Plus Music Store in Vandalia. He also started over eight singing groups over the years. Pastor Jeff enjoyed music, playing guitar, being outside and visiting with relatives and friends.
Born: July 15, 1961 in Quincy, Illinois the son of John Henry and Helena Virginia (Pearl) Mims.
Married: Pamela Yvette Gantt in Jones, Oklahoma on August 6, 1983; she survives at the home.
Survivors include: father, John and wife, Vicki Mims of Quincy; wife, Pam of Vandalia; two sons:Jeffrey L. Mims Jr. and wife, Sofanit Hailu-Mims of Oklahoma City; Anthony J. and wife, Yancee Davis of Nauvoo, Illinois; two daughters: Shannon Y. and husband, Wayne Sutton of Oklahoma City; Halley S. and husband, Geriod Davis of Vandalia; one brother, John E. Mims of Quincy; two sisters: Sherlene and husband, Errol Simpson of Las Vegas and Indea Shepherd of Quincy; grandchildren: Amyah, Josiah, Jonah, Trey, Ahadu, Imani, Ezana, Kegan, Liam and Temperence; also survived by several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Preceded in death by: mother; one sister, Helane J. Adams.
