Service:

Friday, January 23, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at Water Funeral Chapel.
Officiating will be: Rev. D. Randall Cone.
Interment will be in the Vandalia Cemetery.
Pallbearers: Ronald Suddarth, Bob Suddarth, Hayden Adkison, Donald Hayden, Terry Smith and Earl Wayne Smith.

Opal L. (Suddarth) Smith passed away at 8:30 a.m. on Sunday, January 18, 2015 at the Maple Grove Lodge in Louisiana, Missouri. Opal grew up in the Louisiana area and was a 1940 graduate of Louisiana High School. After her marriage to Ferrell Leon Smith, they lived and worked in Vandalia. Opal worked at the Bobby Brooks factory and other garment factories from 1960 until her retirement in 1982. Shortly after she retired, they moved back to Louisiana to be closer to their daughter and her family. Opal was a long-time member of the Elmwood Presbyterian Church in Louisiana. While her health was still good, she walked at least twice daily and enjoyed playing cards and bingo at the Trimble House in Louisiana.

Born: March 31, 1922 in Louisiana, Missouri the daughter of Walter Henry and Emma Mae (James) Suddarth.

Married: Ferrell Leon Smith in Texas where he was stationed in the U. S. Army on April 5, 1942; he preceded her in death on October 7, 2001.

Survivors include: one daughter, Patricia Anne (Smith) Boyd of Eolia, Missouri; step-granddaughter, Michelle Lee Danback of Eolia; step-great-granddaughter, Alyesa Nichole Danback of Eolia; three sisters-in-law: Mrs. Basil (Melba) Suddarth of Vandalia; Mrs. Walter Clark (Dorothy) Smith of Vandalia; Mrs. Richard (Lori Ann) Smith of Bowling Green; also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by: parents; husband, Ferrell Leon Smith; four sisters: Roxie, Lorraine, Gladys and Mary; four brothers: Elmer, Henry, Raymond and Basil; son-in-law, Richard T. (Rick) Boyd.

Memorials may be made to a scholarship fund for Opal's great-granddaughter, Alyesa N. Danback in care of Waters Funeral Home, P O Box 84, Vandalia.
