Service:

Sunday, June 21, 2009 at 1:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church Family Life Center in Vandalia, Missouri.
Officiating will be: Rev. Bob Hoehn.
Music provided by: Shirley Forgy - pianist; Alan Shaw - soloist.
Interment will be in the Evergreen Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Vandalia, Missouri.
Pallbearers: Jeff Moore, Corey Moore, Matt Sutton, Bruce Carlson, Paul Carlson and Boyce Branstetter. Honorary pallbearers: Jordan Powell, Duane Gibson, Dick Hammett, Dave Klug and Glen Bailey.

Norma Jean (Smith) Coose passed away at 7:50 a.m. on Thursday, June 18, 2009 at the Boone Hospital Center in Columbia, Missouri. She had lived most all her life in the Vandalia and surrounding area. Norma Jean was a 1946 Vandalia High School graduate and attended one year at Hannibal-LaGrange College. After school, she taught for one year at the Crosslane Country School and then worked for two years as an operator at the phone office in Vandalia. She then became a full-time homemaker and was devoted to her family, friends and church. Norma Jean was a member of the First Baptist Church in Vandalia where she served as treasurer for over 25 years. She also sang in the choir, was a bible school teacher and long-time member of the Cherise Wenger Circle. Norma Jean also enjoyed working during the elections, sewing, reading, listening to music, participating with the Audrain County Relay for Life and she especially enjoyed spending time with her family.

Born: May 25, 1928 in Curryville, Missouri the daughter of Elmer Adrain and Ruby Belle (Robertson) Smith.

Married: Leo Vaughn Coose on March 19, 1950 in Vandalia; he preceded her in death on October 6, 1983.

Survivors include: three daughters: Marsha K. and husband, Gary Peery of The Villages, Florida; Debby E. and husband, Rex Moore of rural Vandalia; Cathy S. and husband, Mark Sutton of Buford, Georgia; one sister: Virginia S. and husband, George Carlson of rural Laddonia, Missouri; one brother-in-law and sister-in-law: Malcolm and Patsy Coose of rural Vandalia; four grandchildren: Jeff and wife, Sally Moore of Jefferson City, Missouri; Corey and wife, Stephanie Moore of Olathe, Kansas; Matt Sutton of Chapel Hill, North Carolina and Beth and husband, Jordan Powell of Buford, Georgia; one great-grandson: Grayson Moore; also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Preceded in death by: parents; husband; a sister who died in infancy.

Memorials are encouraged to the East End Miracle Walkers Relay for Life Team or the Tri-County Care Center in Vandalia, Missouri 63382.
