Natalie Dare Gibson

Natalie Dare (Moyers) Gibson, age 93, of Vandalia, MO passed away at 12:29 am Saturday, September 12, 2020, at her home surrounded by her loved family.  

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am Tuesday, September 15, 2020 at the Spencer Creek Baptist Church located at 31403 Hwy P Vandalia, MO 63382. Pastor Bob Hoehn will officiate. Burial will be in the Vandalia Cemetery following the service.

A visitation celebrating the life of Natalie Dare Gibson will be held at 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm Monday September 14, 2020 at the Waters Funeral Home.

Natalie was born on August 4, 1927, in Ralls County, Missouri the daughter of Fred and Oza (Crawford) Moyers.

She was united in marriage to Duane Lee Gibson on July 24, 1949 in rural Monroe City, Missouri. He preceded her in death on December 5, 2013.

Survivors include four sons, Jerry D. and wife, Patti Gibson of Kalama, Washington; James F. and wife, Dani Gibson of Edwards, Illinois; David V. Gibson of rural Vandalia; Donald C. and wife, Gena Gibson of rural Vandalia; 15 grandchildren: Jonathan, Andy, Jeremy, Katie, Lindsay, Alicia, Dustin, Lucas, Mandy, Kelly, Travis, Kyle, Alyssa, Hayli and Nicole; also survived by 20 great-grandchildren and many other loved family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, Dennis Gibson; brother, Freddie and sister, Harriette; grandson, Drew William Gibson.

Natalie graduated from Monroe City High School class of 1944 and went on to further her education at Hannibal LaGrange and graduated with a bachelors degree of education from University of Missouri. During World War II she was removed from college and given a teaching permit to fill a shortage at Mount Pleasant School in Rural Ralls County for one year. After that she taught at Gentry School until she married Duane in 1949 and started teaching at Round Grove School north of Vandalia. After taking a few years off to raise her five sons, she returned to the teaching profession at the Van-Far school district. She taught sixth grade for many years until retirement in 1990.

Natalie loved her family beyond understanding and will be missed dearly. She has loved farm life since she was a little girl and was often found helping on the family farm. Natalie and her mother were known for their wonderful singing for weddings and funerals in the area. She loved canning and was known for her famous strawberry jam and rolls. Her faith in God was unbreakable, she was an inspiration to everyone who knew her and will be missed by so many.

Natalie was a member of  Spencer Creek Baptist Church, Liberty Community Association, Liberty Wide Awake 4-H, Saint Cecilia Music Club, Classy Lassies, Melody Marms and the Van-Far Teachers Association.

Pallbearers will be Andy Gibson, Dustin Gibson, Lucas Gibson, Travis Gibson, Kyle Gibson and Gage Gibson

Honorary pallbearers are Jonathan Gibson, Jeremy Gibson, Katie Matzen, Lindsay Knoll, Alicia Villanueva, Mandy Reading, Kelly Gibson, Alyssa Long and Hayli Gibson.

Memorial contributions may be made to Van-Far Alumni Association for the Natalie Gibson Scholarship, in care of Waters Funeral Home.
