Matthew D Salmon

Matthew D Salmon, age 97, of Vandalia, MO passed away at 12:01 pm Sunday, November 12,
2023, at the Pike County Memorial Hospital, Louisiana MO.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Wednesday, November 22, 2023, at the Vandalia
Second Christian Church. Oscar Williams will officiate. Burial will be in the Vandalia Cemetery.
Visitation celebrating the life of Matthew D Salmon will be held at 10:00 am until 11:00 am, Wednesday,
November 22, 2023, at the Vandalia Second Christian Church.

Matthew was born on March 18, 1926, in Vandalia MO, the son of John and Gertrude (Barber)
Salmon.  He was united in marriage to Mary Cathrine Miller on July 26, 1952, in Frankford Mo. Mary
Cathrine survives in death.

Survivors included Wife, Mary Cathrine Salmon of Vandalia, MO. Daughter, Gretha Furqan;
Two Sisters, Inez McPike of Vandalia, MO and Lillian Johnson of Vandalia, MO; Grand
Children, Rasheedah Furqan Clay (Stacy), Matthew Furqan (Ritarsha), Muhammed Furqan
(Lindsay), Najla Furqan, Walidah Furqan (Terrell Dale), and Nabilah Furqan; Great
Grandchildren, Na'ilah, Averie, Lucy, Matthew Jr., Amir Novan, Harper, Aretha Grace and
Muhammad Jr. and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Gertrude (Barber) Salmon; Four Brothers,
Benjamin Salmon, Dolly Leo Salmon, Jesse Salmon and Robert Salmon, Two Sisters, Virgie
Ethel Overton and Bezolia K Salmon.

Matthew attended school and went on to join the Air Force in 1942. Matthew honorably served
and spent his last six months with the Army where he was honorably discharged on December 3, 1946.

After returning home Matthew and worked for Harbison Walker Refractories until his retirement
after 43 years.

Matthew was a member of the Second Christian Church. He enjoyed singing in the mens chorus
as a bass. He adored his family. Enjoyed fishing at the dam; watching game shows, Gun Smoke
and NBA games-whatever team Lebron James was on. Matthew was a man of few words. but
had a good heart; loved his church and never missed many days attending service.
