Martha L. (Kraft) Wright passed away at 8:58 p.m. on Saturday, April 11, 2015 at the Audrain Medical Center in Mexico, Missouri. She was a life-long rural Vandalia area resident and member of the Vandalia United Methodist Church. Martha was a 1937 graduate of Vandalia High School and got her teaching degree from Northeast Missouri State Teachers College in Kirksville. She began teaching near Martinsburg where she met her future husband, Gerald W. Wright. Martha then became a full-time homemaker on the family farm southeast of Vandalia. She enjoyed spending time with her family and traveling with Gerald, especially to Florida during the winter months. Martha's hobbies included gardening, her flowers, cooking, raising Pekinese dogs, livestock, jigsaw puzzles, embroidery and quilt making.
Born: January 7, 1920 in rural Vandalia, Missouri the daughter of Herman August and Dolly Leota (May) Kraft.
Married: Gerald W. Wright on March 12, 1939 in Bowling Green, Missouri; he preceded her in death on August 20, 1999.
Survivors include: three sons: Herman "Sonny" Wright and wife, Alice of rural Vandalia; Jerry Wright and wife, Kathryn of rural Martinsburg; Charlie Wright and wife, Teresa of rural Vandalia; eight grandchildren: Diane and Thom Spradling of Vandalia; Jim and Lynda Wright of Columbia; Allison and Kerry Loy of Chesterfield; Angela and Jerry Basinger of Bruning, Nebraska; Betsy and Lyle Kreisel of Warrensburg; Clark and Stacy Wright of Martinsburg; Ashley and Kevin McKinnie of Springfield; Allen Wright and Trina Hays of Vandalia; also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Preceded in death by: parents; husband, Gerald; one brother, Louis A. Kraft; four sisters: Eloise Diechman, Marie Rutherford, Wilma Rutherford and Geneva Moore.
Memorials are encouraged to the Vandalia United Methodist Church or to the donor's choice.
