Marjorie Elizabeth Jenkins, 90, of Vandalia, MO passed away at 5:46 p.m. Sunday, November 24, 2019, at her home.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, November 27, 2019, at the Waters Funeral Home in Vandalia. Rev. Glen Foreman will officiate. Burial will be in the Vandalia Cemetery.
Visitation celebrating Marjorie’s life will be held 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service Wednesday at the Waters Funeral Home.
Marjorie was born on August 27, 1929, in Estes, MO the daughter of Archie Dean and Lutie (Henderson) Johnston. She was united in marriage to Carroll Paul Jenkins on December 11, 1948, at the First Presbyterian Church in Vandalia. Paul preceded her in death on January 29, 2015.
Survivors include her daughter, Lula Sims and husband CL of Middletown, MO; grandchildren, Lisa Shimp and fiancé Scott Chamberlian of Frankford, MO, Ginna Cover and husband Bill of Bowling Green, MO and Melissa Baskett and husband Jared of Vandalia, MO; and four great-grandchildren.
Also surviving is extended family raised by Paul and Marjorie in their home, Jon Paul Bergman and wife Jessica, Shirley Johnson, Robert Johnston, Debbie Ammeter, Jason Bergman and Bruce Welch.
In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Jenkins was preceded in death by her brothers, Archie Dean Johnston, Charles Johnston and a infant brother.
Marjorie graduated from Bowling Green High School in 1948. She previously worked at Ely Walker Shoe Factory, Bobbie Brooks Garment Factory and Legoons Canvas Factory in Vandalia before retirement.
Marjorie had a green thumb and always enjoyed raising a huge garden. Tomatoes was her specialty and loved to share and eat the fruits of her labor. Along with gardening, Marjorie enjoyed canning, and was also a great cook. In her free time and later years Marjorie enjoyed working on her ancestry. Marjorie’s biggest love was her family and cherished hosting family holiday gatherings.
Mrs. Jenkins was a member of Southside Baptist Church in Vandalia.
Pallbearers will be Bobby Jo Johnston, Troy Johnston, Jason Bergman, Bobby Welch, Jeff Gay, Alan Edfords, Mike Van and Elmer Kidd.
Honorary pallbearers will be Butch Welch, Bruce Welch, Robert Johnston and Micah Johnston.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Tri-County Saddle Club or Elm Grove Baptist Church, in care of the Waters Funeral Home.
