Leona Marie (Fisher) Nolan passed away at 7:05 a.m. on Friday, February 20, 2015 at the Tri-County Care Center in Vandalia. She was a lifelong Vandalia area resident and attended country schools near New Harmony. Leona was a homemaker and longtime member of the First Baptist Church in Vandalia where she taught Sunday school and Bible school. She enjoyed reading, writing poetry and spending time with her children and grandchildren. Leona also enjoyed sewing dresses for family members and for weddings.
Born: December 12, 1916 in New Harmony, Missouri the daughter of Clifford and Mary Alice (Patrick) Fisher.
Married: Wyatt Dennis Nolan on September 22, 1937 in Mexico, Missouri; he preceded her in death on August 12, 2003.
Survivors include: one daughter, LaVonne Jones and husband, Richard of Vandalia; one daughter-in-law, Joyce Nolan of Vandalia; grandchildren: Rick and Colleen Jones of Center; Stacey and Michael Higgerson of Glen Carbon, Illinois; Matthew and Gayle Jones of Vandalia; Lori and Michael Culwell of Vandalia; Natalie and Lucas Gibson of Vandalia; great-grandchildren: Brian and Nathan Jones, Nolan and Cody Gilley, Samantha and Colton Higgerson, Cameron, Lexie and Lindsay Jones, Gage and Zoe Gibson, Sara Marshall and Lacy Hinch.
Preceded in death by: parents; one son, Lynn Nolan; three sisters: Edith Houchins, Edna Fukua and Arline Staton; three brothers: Harold Fisher, M. W. Fisher and Clarence Fisher.
Memorials are encouraged to the Missouri Baptist Children's Home or the First Baptist Church Food Pantry or St. Jude's Children's Hospital.
