Service:

Wednesday, April 6, 2016 at 3:00 p.m. at St. John Lutheran Church,Vandalia. Graveside committal service will take place on Thursday, April 7, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. at the Jackson City Cemetery in Jackson, Missouri.

Interment: the Jackson City Cemetery.
Pallbearers: grandchildren: Pamela Schulz, William Boyer, Laura Engelhardt, David Boyer, Richard Boyer IV and Kara Lim.

Leon B. Schwab passed away at 6:50 a.m. on Sunday,April 3, 2016 at the Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He grew up in the Gordonville/ Charleston area and graduated in 1939 from Charleston High School. Leon then attended Southeast Missouri State Teachers College. He transferred to the University of Missouri School of Mines & Metallurgy at Rolla. On January 19, 1943, Leon graduated with his degree in ceramic engineering. Leon was a member of the 134Regimental Infantry Band of the Missouri National Guard. He immediately started working for the Harbison Walker Refractories in Vandalia and worked there for 40 years, retiring in 1983. Leon was a longtime member of the St. John Lutheran Church in Vandalia where he was very active. He also enjoyed meeting with other retirees from the brick plant and having breakfast or lunch. In years past, Leon also worked with Harold Fuller building and refurbishing homes in Vandalia.

Born: March 12, 1921 in Gordonville, Missouri the son of Leo Jacob and Alma Leona (Bangert) Schwab.

Married: Charlotte Virginia Kasten in Jackson, Missouri on May 21, 1944; she preceded him in death on February 17, 1999.

Survivors include: one son, Walter L. Schwab of Valley, Nebraska; two daughters: Virginia Kay and husband, Richard Boyer of Cedar Rapids, Iowa and Kathryn Ann and husband, Bruce Boyer of Kernersville, North Carolina. Also survived by six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren: Grant & Jackson (Pamela) Schulz; Kristen & Alex (Laura) Engelhardt; Jude (William) Boyer and Abigail (David) Boyer. Preceded in death by: parents; wife, Charlotte.
