After a year-long fight with cancer John Nobert, 65, of Vandalia, was at peace and left us in his sleep Saturday morning, August 12.
He was the son of a US Navy sailor and grew up as a Navy brat making frequent moves in support of his father’s career until his retirement and their final family home in Oxnard, Calif.
While attending Hueneme High School, he was a member of the marching band and cross-country team. After high school, he joined the United States Marine Corps where he served as an Avionics Repairman with HMLA 267, MAG 39.
After his service, he attended Sacramento State University where he earned his Bachelors of Science in Recreational Management. He joined the United States Forest Service as a Recreational Planner.
Not much later, he married one of his high school sweethearts, Marilyn. Together they had three children. He also gained two stepdaughters. They were married nearly 10 years.
Prior to leaving the forest service he met and married Jeanine. They share one son. They were married seven years.
During the several years that followed, John worked several careers. He served as a substitute teacher, a handyman and worked in new home construction. He worked in tree trimming and traveled to support disaster cleanups to include Hurricane Katrina. Most notably to many, he was a passionate DJ and served many of his family, friends and community with his talents in sharing his music. His most recent employment was with the State of Missouri Department of Corrections. He retired in 2018 after his recovery from an injury prevented his ability to perform his duties.
John worked in many fields. He finally found his dream job in the last ten years of his life as a licensed ammunition and firearms manufacturer and dealer as the owner of X-CaliBear, LLC.
John was married twice but dedicated the last 23 years to Mary Logerman.
John’s passions were his children and grandchildren, jalapeño chips, Sun Drop soda, firearms and music. He loved the Marine Corps and was incredibly proud of his service and all those serving past and present.
He leaves behind a sister, Terry Maisano, brother Tom, and stepbrother, Chet Blanton. Four children, Jacqueline Darnell, her husband Brent and daughter Magnolia, Jessica Hall, Petty Officer First Class, USN, her husband Davis, Chief Petty Officer, USN, and children Evan and Madelyn, Joshua Nobert and partner Cheyenne, Joseph Nobert, and two stepdaughters, Melissa Wilson, her husband Jason and children Alec and Ian, and Nicole Smith, her husband Rusty and children Andrew, Kaitlyn and Blake.
