Interment will be in the Vandalia Cemetery with full military honors.
Pallbearers: Jordan Myers, Tray DeTienne, Trenton DeTienne, Clay Schoneboom, Woody Schoneboom and Max Miller. Honorary pallbearers: Kayla Reading, Kassi Barclay, Emily DeTienne, Forrest Schoneboom and Debbie Hawn.
John Robert "J.R." DeTienne passed away at 5:35 p.m. on Wednesday, March 9, 2011 at his home in Vandalia. J. R. attended schools in Vandalia and was a member of the class of 1960. He joined the Marine Corps and served during Vietnam War. Upon returning to Vandalia with his wife Donna, he started working at Harry's Superette for a few years. J. R. then worked for a propane gas distributor and Elzea Egg Company as a driver. He then went to work at the Kroger Grocery store as a meat cutter and worked there for 37 years, retiring in April of 2003. J. R. was a life member of the Vandalia VFW Post 2173, member of Vandalia Masonic Lodge #491, the American Legion Post in Laddonia and U.F.C.W. local #655. J. R. enjoyed hunting, fishing, boondockin and playing the lottery scratch off games.
Born: March 15, 1941 in rural Audrain County, Missouri the son of Wesley Sharidan and Lilly Grace (McCurdy) DeTienne.
Married: Donna Marie Claridge on December 9, 1961 in Hawthorne, California; she survives at the home.
Survivors include: wife, Donna of Vandalia; one son, Tracy S. and wife, Krystal DeTienne of Vandalia; two daughters, Penny L. and husband, Forrest Schoneboom of Vandalia; Karen M. DeTienne-Hawn and spouse, Debbie Hawn of Vandalia; three brothers: Wesley "Pete" DeTienne of Martinsburg, Missouri; Ray DeTienne of Vandalia; Virgil L. DeTienne of LasVegas; one sister, Martha G. McDaneld of Mexico, Missouri; eight grandchildren: Kayla Reading, Kassi Barclay, Tray DeTienne, Trenton DeTienne, Jordan Myers, Clay Schoneboom, Woody Schoneboom and Emily DeTienne; three great-grandchildren: Kaden Whiteaker, Kashton Rhodes and Layla Schoneboom.
Preceded in death by: parents and one granddaughter, Virginia Grace DeTienne.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are encouraged to the American Cancer Society.
