Pallbearers: Tim Kurz, Dean Baker, Bruce Burnett, Fred Nelson, Marvin Yager and Jim Elzea. Honorary pallbearer is Al Wortman.
Joe Edwin Griggs passed away at 6:05 p.m. on Tuesday, September 16, 2014 at the Boone Hospital Center in Columbia, Missouri. He was a life-long Vandalia resident and graduated from Vandalia High School with the class of 1949. Joe was a long-time member of the First Christian Church where he had served as a deacon and Sunday school teacher. Joe started working for Harbison Walker after high school and worked there for over 36 years, retiring on December 31, 1986. He also through the years had built by himself or with his brother ten houses in Vandalia. Joe enjoyed his work and building houses.
Born:December 15, 1931 in Center, Missouri the son of Thomas Warren and Ruby Ione (Pierceall) Griggs.
Married: Rheva Elaine Righter in Vandalia, Missouri on June 10, 1950; she preceded him in death on July 25, 2013.
Survivors include: two sons: Eddie W. and wife, Marilyn Griggs of Cosby, Missouri; Kevin R. Griggs of Vandalia; two sisters: Helen and husband, Bob Jerman of Vandalia; Norma Jean Willis of Springfield, Missouri; four grandchildren: Karin, Karla, Aaron and Lance; six great-grandchildren: Courtney, Lucas, Trevor, Nathan, Grady and Barrett; also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by: wife, Rheva; one daughter, Debra Griggs; parents; two brothers: Everett Griggs and an infant brother, James Griggs.
Memorials are encouraged to Central Christian College in Moberly, Missouri or to the First Christian Church in Vandalia.
