Jean Ann (Gooch) Drainer passed awayat 8a.m. on Sunday, July31, 2016 at her home in Farber. She was a lifelong area resident and a 1956 graduate of Vandalia High School. Jean Ann was a member of the Elm Grove Baptist Church.After school, Jean Ann worked several years as a bookkeeper for Ennis Implement in Vandalia. She then opened Jean Ann's Café in Curryville. She had the café and worked at Bobby Brooks for many years, closing the café in 1986. Jean Ann then began working at Abel's Quik Shop in Vandalia. She worked there for nearly 23 years, her last position as an assistant manager, before retiring in 2009. In her early years, Jean Ann enjoyed 4-H and her exhibits, FHA and go-cart racing. She also enjoyed singing, dancing, canning, gardening, cooking, and baking.
Born: October 15, 1939 in the Adiel community north of Vandalia the daughter of Edward Eugene and Ramona Uvadell (Motley) Gooch.
Married: Victor Drainer on July1, 1961 in Bowling Green, Missouri; he preceded her in death on May11, 2001.
Survivors include: two sons: Mark Alan Drainer of St. Joseph; Michael Anthony Drainer of Maryville; twodaughters:Melody Ann Drainer and Robert Miller of Farber; Melinda Annette and husband, Chad Dempsey of New Hartford; three brothers: Richard R. and wife, Joan Gooch of Vandalia; William R. and wife, Carole Gooch of Rome, Georgia; Robert L. Gooch of Vandalia; two sisters:Linda L. and husband, Shannon M. Culwell Sr. of rural Vandalia; Rebecca L. and husband, John Allen of Knoxville, Tennessee; seven grandchildren: Lindsay A. Drainer, Kasey D. Drainer, Desiree S. Griggsby, Rashaun T. S. Overton, Coral L. Ball, Luke D. Dempsey and McCailyn M. Drainer; nine great-grandchildren: Xsavier, Zander and Adrian Horton; Zachariah Cagle, Joscelyn and Jaxeson Pargeon, Honestei and Zamirah Martin, Nevaeh Ball; also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by: parents.
