Janice was a member of the Vandalia Fair Board for several years. She enjoyed managing the beer garden in the late 80s and early 90s. Friends and family always volunteered to assist. She often enlisted the help of her son’s friends and military buddies to serve beer and keep the peace which made for a fun atmosphere during fair week.

Janice loved to bowl and did so on league and in tournaments for many years. She enjoyed fishing and being near water even though she never learned to swim. She loved playing and coaching softball for her kids' teams, as well as many adult slow pitch teams. She was a very competitive card player often engaging in rowdy games of Pitch and Spades with her family and friends. She enjoyed occasionally going to the "boat" and playing the slots.   She adored spending time with her family and grandchildren.
