Service:

Friday, July 21, 2006 at 2:30 p.m. a graveside memorial service will be held at the Vandalia Cemetery in Vandalia, Missouri.
Officiating will be: Pastor Glenn Forman.
Music provided by:
Interment will be in the Vandalia Cemetery with full military honors.
Pallbearers: his five grandchildren served as honorary pallbearers: Amy Culwell, Beth Culwell, Brandon Carter, Haley Carter and Andy Culwell.

James N. "Toot" Culwell passed away at 2:50 p.m. Friday, July 14, 2006 at the Harry S. Truman Veterans Hospital in Columbia, Missouri. He grew up on a farm outside of Gazette, Missouri and was a 1959 Bowling Green High School graduate. Toot served in the U. S. Air Force from 1959 to 1962 and after the service moved his family to St. Charles, Missouri where he worked for McDonnell-Douglas. After a short period, he bought a farm near Gazette and while farming he also worked for Dundee Cement Company. In 1982, Toot moved his family to the oil fields of Borger, Texas where he worked as a mechanic. Toot moved back to the rural Middletown area in 1994 and had various jobs until his retirement in 2005. He was a member of the Estes Presbyterian Church and the Curryville Masonic Lodge.

Born: August 25, 1941 in Buffalo, New York the son of E. W. and Velma (Turpin) Culwell.

Married: Delores Jennings on July 30, 1960 in Bowling Green, Missouri.

Survivors include: three sons, James N. Culwell Jr. of Mexico, Missouri; Phillip W. and wife, Joyce Culwell of Bowling Green, Missouri; Timothy G. Culwell of Virginia Beach, Virginia; two daughters, Sharon and husband, Mitchell Carter of Tulsa, Oklahoma and Cheryl Culwell of Tulsa, Oklahoma; one brother, Joe T. and wife, Susan Culwell of Troy Mills, Iowa; one sister, Rhonda and husband, Allan Kurz of Middletown, Missouri; one nephew, Daniel Culwell of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; nieces, Samantha Culwell of Iowa City, Iowa and Victoria Culwell of Troy Mills, Iowa.

Preceded in death by: parents and oldest daughter, Marcia Lynn Culwell.

Memorials may be made to Harry S. Truman VA Hospital, Columbia, Missouri.
