Herbert Lee "Herb" McGlasson passed away unexpectedly at 5:23 p.m. on Sunday, September 7, 2014 at the Audrain Medical Center in Mexico, Missouri. Herb grew up and attended schools in the Winchester, Illinois area. He served a short time in the U. S. Army and then returned and worked as a mechanic for approximately five years for Caterpillar in Peoria, Illinois. Herb and Elsie moved to the rural Curryville area in 1972 where he worked for over 40 years as an owner/operator of a trucking company. He retired from trucking in 2008. Herb attended Elm Grove Baptist Church and enjoyed hobbies of farming, taking care of his cattle, hunting and tending his beehives.
Born: December 12, 1941 in Winchester, Illinois the son of Harvey Otis and Eva Katherine (Tipsword) McGlasson.
Married: Elsie Lucille Daniels in Pittsfield, Illinois on August 7, 1961; she preceded him in death on June 8, 2014.
Survivors include: five sons: Herbert and Glenda McGlasson Jr. of rural Vandalia; Chuck and Connie McGlasson of Vandalia; David and Danielle McGlasson of Vandalia; Carl and Bernie McGlasson of Eolia; Dale and Sharon McGlasson of New Bloomfield; six brothers: Owen McGlasson of Jacksonville, Illinois; Harvey McGlasson of Chapin, Illinois; Paul McGlasson of Arntsville, Illinois; Charlie McGlasson of Joliet, Illinois; Joe McGlasson of Curryville and Nathan Henderson of Vandalia; four sisters: Weava Mahassey of Amarillo, Texas; Martha Bangert of Ballwin; Dorothy Harrell of Carbondale, Illinois and Gladys Thias of Groom, Texas; also survived by 17 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Preceded in death by: wife, Elsie; parents; one sister, Linnie Smart.
Memorials are encouraged to the American Lung Association or the American Cancer Society.
