Service:

Saturday, February 4, 2006, 10:30 a.m. at the First Baptist Church, Vandalia.

Officiating will be: Rev. Derek Grigg.
Music provided by: Shirley Forgy - pianist; Greg McGhee - soloist.
Interment will be in the Vandalia Cemetery.

Pallbearers: Kent Bailey, Mike Bailey, Brock Bailey, Ryan Bailey, Ben Wilkerson and Tom James.
Honorary pallbearers are the First Baptist Church Deacons, Bob Dunn and Danny Lewis.

George F. Bailey died at 4:45 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 1, 2006 at the Tri-County Care Center in Vandalia. After graduating from high school and receiving his bachelor's degree in history from Central Missouri State Teachers College, and his master's degree in education from the University of Missouri in Columbia, George started teaching in the Bowling Green R I school district. He taught for three years and then served as the elementary principal at Frankford and Curryville schools for 18 years. During this time, George also farmed in the Curryville area.

George lived most of his life in the rural Curryville area.

He was a member of the First Baptist Church where he served as a deacon, song leader, Sunday school teacher and church moderator for many years; a member of the Pike County Historical Society; BPM Club in Vandalia; Vandalia Country Club and Pike County retired teachers association. George enjoyed playing golf every chance he could.

Born: March 30, 1917 in Clarksburg, MO to Fred & Bernyce Hattie (Don Carlos) Bailey.


Married: Anna Claudine Henry on Dec. 24, 1938 in Latham, MO; she survives.


Other survivors include: ONE SON: GLEN and wife, CAROLYN BAILEY of rural CURRYVILLE; ONE DAUGHTER: JANET and husband, BILL WILKERSON of BLUE SPRINGS, MO; EIGHT GRANDCHILDREN: KENT BAILEY of FT. MADISON, IA; MIKE BAILEY of CARMEL, IN; BROCK and RYAN BAILEY of CURRYVILLE; KRISTEN JAMES of O'FALLON, IL; JULIE COBB of ROSEDALE, CA; BEN WILKERSON of KANSAS CITY, MO and MEAGHAN WILKERSON of BLUE SPRINGS; 11 GREAT-GRANDCHILDREN; SON-IN-LAW: RON COBB of JEFFERSON CITY, MO.

Preceded in death by: ONE SON: GEORGE H. BAILEY and ONE DAUGHTER: JOYCE (BAILEY) COBB.
