Fred D. Coss

November 24, 1938 — April 12, 2022

Fred D. Coss, age 83, of Vandalia, MO passed away at 2:09 am Tuesday, April 12, 2022, at his home surrounded by family.  

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm Friday, April 15, 2022 at Waters Funeral Home. Pastor Glenn Forman will officiate. Burial with full military honors will be in the Vandalia Cemetery following the service. 

Visitation celebrating Fred's life will be held at 12:00 pm until the time of service Friday, April 15, 2022 at the Waters Funeral Home. 

Fred was the second of four children, born on November 24, 1938, in Vandalia, Missouri the son of Cloyd and Edna (Marshal) Coss.

He was united in marriage to Alice Jane Coss on December 1, 1958 in Vandalia, MO and were married for 55 years. Alice preceded him in death on April 12, 2014.

He was also preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Martha Burnett-Oncken; and one brother, Jim Coss. 

Survivors include Two Daughters, Lori (Carl) Ulrich of Bowling Green, and Lisa Swarnes of Clarksville, TN; Five Grandsons, Scott (Stephanie) Ulrich of Bowling Green, Richard (Ashley) Ulrich of Ewing, Robert (Megan) Ulrich of Vandalia, Isaac (Kaitlyn) Swarnes of Hannibal, and Noah Swarnes of Bowling Green; Two Granddaughters, Rachel (Tyler) Sims of Clarksville, TN, and Lydia (Daniel) Liguori of Wahiawa, HI; Sister, Dottie (Robert) Morris of Curryville; Eight Great Grandchildren; and other loved family and friends. 

Fred graduated from Vandalia High School Class of 1956 and went on to further his education at Coyne Electrical College in Chicago, IL. He honorably served in the United States Army from 1962 to 1964, serving in South Korea.

Fred was a member of  Elm Grove Baptist Church, where he served as a past deacon and treasure. He also helped out with the Salt River Baptist Association. Fred loved spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was a tech savvy person and loved his electronics and photography. He enjoyed simple things from a Ice Cream at Dairy Queen to a Pepsi. 

Pallbearers will be Scott Ulrich, Richard Ulrich, Mitch Ulrich, Noah Swarnes, Randy Landman and Isaac Swarnes

Memorial contributions may be made to Elm Grove Baptist Church, Salt River Baptist Assoc., or the Pike County Hospice, in care of Waters Funeral Home.
