Elmer Wayne Thurman passed away at 2:56 a.m. on Wednesday, July 29, 2015 at his home in Curryville with family by his side. He lived his entire life in Pike and Audrain counties. Wayne attended Vandalia, Curryville and Bowling Green schools and was a Baptist by faith. He served three years in the U. S. Army from 1961 to 1964 and had been stationed at Ft. Leonard Wood, Seoul Korea and Ft. Riley, Kansas. Wayne retired from Harbison Walker Refractories as a kiln burner in Vandalia after 49 years. He held several union officer positions with Union 853. Wayne was an avid fisherman and hunter and loved camping at Ashburn, Missouri.
Born: September 15, 1943 in rural Bowling Green, Missouri the son of Elmer Newton and Mary Louise "Mae" (Morton) Thurman.
Married: Jean Ann Roberts on July 15, 1968 in Miami, Oklahoma.
Survivors include: wife, Jean Ann of the home; one brother, Tom Thurman and one sister, Nancy Thurman Nation and husband Larry, all of Vandalia; nieces and nephews: Loriann Houchen and Bryce, friend Darrell Rutherford all of New Franklin; Cheryl and Allen Nelson of Auxvasse; Lisa and Dave Tucker of Umitilla, Florida; Lukas and Jonah Hamburg of Columbia; Randy, Melissa and Michael Cox of Ashland; Kelly, Mickey and Bryan Mink of Vandalia; Keith, Nickole, Mitchell, Molly and Madelyn Nation of Wentzville; one brother-in-law, Rex Luckett and wife Barb of rural Curryville; Nicole Luckett and Megan Luckett of Perry; Jason and Jennifer Goff, Jason Jr., Tyler and Mildred all of Mexico; Aaron and Samatha Goff, Michael, Gaberiel, Lucious, Julian all of Paris; Christopher Goff and Allie of Mexico; Cory and Bri Goff, Owen and Ryker of Mexico; Nicole Goff of Hannibal; Aunts, Martha Morton of Frankford and Edna Worthington of Mexico; Aunts/caregivers: Donna, Karen and Sharon Caldwell of Vandalia; Special long-time friends/caregivers; Joe and Katy Wagler, Steven Adele, Jerry, Rachel, Joseph, Lucas, Marlin, Luella, Linda, Wilmer, Rose and Frances.
