Dorothy James, age 98, of Vandalia Missouri, passed away on April 17, 2024, at her home.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Tuesday, April 23, 2024, at Waters Funeral Home. Pastor Bob Hoehn will officiate. Interment will follow at the Vandalia Cemetery.
A private family viewing will be before the service.
Dorothy was born on June 4, 1925, the daughter to Estel and Lena (Miller) Hoover in Reedsville Missouri. She was united in marriage to Paul Leon James in January of 1942. He precedes her in death.
Survivors include one son; Paul James of Vandalia MO, one Daughter; Karen Westenhaver of Columbia MO, Grandson; Matt (Heather) Westenhaver granddaughter; Michele (Gerald) Forrest, and Great-Grandchildren; Lena Westenhaver and Wayne Westenhaver.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Husband Paul and Sister Donna Oberhaus.
Professionally, Dorothy worked for the International Shoe Factory and then the Bobby Brooks plant until she retired.
Dorothy and Paul loved to travel in their early years. They traveled all over the U.S. and visited anything of significance or historical significance. Dorothy especially liked to visit Tennessee and watch the shows at the Grand Ole Opry. Dorothy and Paul enjoyed taking the boat out on the lake and water skiing. She was known to be a very good cook and adored her family.
Pallbearers will be Matt Westenhaver, Ron Westenhaver, Richard Oberhaus and Gerald Forrest.
Memorials are suggested to the Northeast Humane Society, in care of Waters Funeral Home.
