Dorothy Culwell

Dorothy Culwell, age 96, of Mexico, MO formerly of Vandalia, MO passed away at 3:10 pm Tuesday, August 27, 2024, at Kings Daughter's Home in Mexico, MO.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm Friday, August 30, 2024, at Waters Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the Vandalia Cemetery.

Visitation celebrating Dorothy's life will be held at 11:00 am until the time of the service Friday at Waters Funeral Home.

Dorothy was born on September 12, 1927, in Vandalia, MO the daughter of Raymond and Lola (Robison) Holmes.

She was united in marriage to Charles Ronald Culwell on March 12, 1947. He preceded her in death on January 28, 1994.

Survivors include her daughters, Ronnie Lou Pease (Gary) of Laddonia, MO and Karen Reading (Chuck Morgan) of Mexico, MO; daughter-in-law, Lori Culwell of Vandalia, MO; grandchildren, Sandra Craft (Shawn), Randee Deere (Dan), Sara Marshall (Paul), Kayla Reading (Joshua Murray), and Lacy Hinch (Payton), Nolan Gilley (Taiylor) and Cody Gilley (Sabrina) ; seventeen great grandchildren; nine great-great grandchildren and two on the way.

In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Culwell was preceded in death by her son, Mike Culwell; sister, Virginia Seeley; son-in-law, Howard Reading and three grandsons, Eric Pease, Chauncey Pease and Dakota Reading.

Professionally Dorothy worked at International Shoe Company, and later at Bobbie Brooks and Cal-Jac garment factories. She was also a bookkeeper for her husband at Culwell's Repair shop. 

Dorothy was all about her family. She enjoyed cooking family dinners and spoiling her grandchildren. Taking care of the animals on the farm, playing Bingo, genealogy, shopping trips, riding the Oats bus and trips to the Cannon Dam Opry were all things Dorothy enjoyed. Traveling with friends and family were cherished times for Dorothy, but after her trip to Canada, Dorothy never wanted to travel by plane again. Dorothy will be missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing her.

Pallbearers will be Sandy Craft, Randee Deere, Sara Marshall, Kayla Reading, Lacy Hinch and Cole Tawney.

Memorial contributions may be made to Sons of Light Riding Association, in care of the Waters Funeral Home.
