Saturday, June 22, 2013 from 9:00 a.m. until service time at Waters Funeral Chapel in Vandalia.
Service:

Saturday, June 22, 2013 at 11:30 a.m. at Waters Funeral Chapel.
Officiating will be: Rev. Bob Hoehn.
Music provided by: Stacy Hamlett & Dennis Ebers - duet.
Interment will be in the Vandalia Cemetery.
Pallbearers: Jackie Hamlett, Austin Hamlett, Melani Hamlett, Mitchel McAfee, Maddie McAfee, Rick McAfee, Lindell Ankrom and Travis Hays.

Della Magdalene "Maggie" (Spires) Hamlett passed away unexpectedly at 3:05 p.m. on Wednesday, June 19, 2013 at Audrain Medical Center in Mexico, Missouri. Maggie lived most all her life in Vandalia and was a 1952 Vandalia High School graduate. She had worked for many years as a bookkeeper at the brokerage store in town and also White Lumber yard. Maggie had been a full-time homemaker, raising their three children while Wayne was working. Her hobbies included baking, quilting, needlepoint, gardening and canning, playing cards and spending much time with her children and grandchildren.

Born: March 20, 1933 in Bellflower, Missouri the daughter of Kay and Parthena (Smith) Spires.

Married: Sylvan Wayne Hamlett in Hannibal on August 16, 1958.

Survivors include: husband, Wayne of Vandalia; two sons: Randall Wayne and wife, Jean Hamlett of Owasso, Oklahoma; Joey Lee and wife, Stacy Hamlett of Vandalia; one daughter, Shelly Dawn and husband, Rick McAfee of Vandalia; two brothers: Gene and wife, Patty Spires of Vandalia; Bill Spires of Williamsburg, Kentucky; one sister, Wanda and husband, Arnold Hobkirk of Vicksburg, Mississippi; five grandchildren: Jackie, Austin and Melani Hamlett; Mitchel and Maddie McAfee; also survived by several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Preceded in death by: parents; two brothers, Leon Spires and Donald Spires; two sisters, Mary Francis Spires and Sharon Hendricks.
