Clarice Cannon, a cherished resident of Vandalia, MO, was born on June 22, 1938, in the very town that would cradle her spirit for much of her life. With profound sadness, we announce her passing on Thursday, April 3, 2025, at the Baptist Homes of Tri-County, where she left this world surrounded by the love and comfort she so richly deserved.
Family and friends are invited to pay their respects during the visitation at Waters Funeral Home, located at 500 S. Main Street, Vandalia, MO, on Friday, April 11, 2025, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM. Her funeral service will be held at the Second Missionary Baptist Church Worship Center, at 1501 US-54, Vandalia, MO, on Saturday, April 12, 2025, starting at 1:00 PM. Following the service, Clarice will be laid to rest in Vandalia Cemetery.
She is lovingly remembered by her son, Dr. Fred Cornelius Cannon and wife Pam of Andover, KS; her daughters, Cathy Lorene Willis of Vandalia, MO, and Kimberly Elaine Bell and husband Harry of Indianapolis, IN; her grandchildren, Samantha Cannon, Fred Cannon Jr., Alisha Cannon, Shayla Willis, Kesiena Willis, Clifton Willis, and Duane Willis; great-grandchildren, Jordan Cannon, Jayden Cannon, Isaiah Johnson, Bricen Cannon, Zaire Willis ,Nasir Smith and Elias Willis; along with a great-great grandchildren, Gianna Cannon and Trevon Cannon.
Clarice was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Noel and Josie (Nickins) Brice, her devoted husband William (Billy) Cannon, and her siblings: brother Nathaniel Brice, and sisters Mary Catherine Lee and Virginia M. Wells. She also mourned the loss of two daughters and one son. Each of these losses shaped her journey, filling her life with poignant memories that she carried with grace.
Clarice’s professional journey was marked by her dedication as a seamstress, contributing her talents to the garment industry within the Vandalia area. Her skilled hands not only crafted fabric but also stitched together communities through her involvement in numerous local initiatives.
A faithful member of the Second Missionary Baptist Church, Clarice illuminated the lives of many, both in worship and in song. Her musical prowess as a talented pianist and organist was widely recognized; she played for countless funerals, the men’s community choir, and the youth choir, leaving an indelible impact on all who heard her play. Her unwavering commitment to her church extended beyond music-she served diligently in the Women’s Missionary Auxiliary, embodying a spirit of service and devotion that inspired those around her.
Clarice’s lively spirit and fun-loving nature resonated deeply with family and friends. She adored family gatherings, particularly the joy and warmth of fish fries, where laughter and cherished memories thrived. Her culinary talents shone brightly in her kitchen, especially in her famous chocolate cake, which will be long remembered by family alongside her signature seasonings and green beans.
Her life was a tapestry woven with love, laughter, music, and dedication. The legacy she leaves behind is one of resilience, joy, and unwavering faith.
