Cecil A. "Jack" Pew

Interment will be in Vandalia Cemetery.

Cecil A. "Jack" Pew passed away at 11:02 a.m. on Monday, November 3, 2014 at the Tri-County Care Center in Vandalia, Missouri. He was a life-long Middletown/Vandalia area resident and attended Middletown country school. Cecil was a member of the Church of the Nazarene in Bowling Green. Through the years, Cecil worked at the Ely Walker Garment Factory in both the cutting room and as a bus driver. He would bus women back and forth to work from Perry to the garment factory in Vandalia. He then worked for a short time at Harbison Walker Refractories before going to work at CE Refractories near Farber. Cecil worked in the pressroom, kiln and in maintenance. He retired from CE Refractories in 1980 after 30 years of service. Upon his retirement, he was self-employed running a flea market from their home in Vandalia where he traded furs, copper and other metals and different types of collectibles. Cecil was active in the Northeast Missouri Rabbit Breeders Association, coon hunting, fishing and hunting, trading livestock and spending time with his grandchildren.

Born: March 1, 1917 in Middletown, Missouri the son of Francis Marion and Musie Adelina (Caldwell) Pew.

Married: Ethel Ailene Gerdeman in Bowling Green, Missouri on May 18, 1940.

Survivors include: wife, Ethel of Vandalia; one son, Cecil W. and wife, Sandy Pew of West Point, Mississippi; five daughters: Bonnie and husband, Floyd Joy of Vandalia; Marilyn K. and husband, Virgil Smith of Vandalia; Joyce and husband, Vince Riedesel of Branson; Sharon Dameron of Bowling Green and Ruth Dameron of Bowling Green; also survived by 15 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by: parents; one daughter, Phyllis Smith; 12 brothers and sisters; three sons-in-law, LaVon Smith, Mike Dameron and Joe Dameron; one daughter-in-law, Marylee Pew.

Memorials are encouraged to the Church of the Nazarene in Bowling Green, Missouri.
