Carol Allen Johnson, 89, born on August 11, 1935, in Sullivan, MO the daughter of Richard Norton and Madge Martin (Whiteside) Allen, Sr., peacefully departed this world on Sunday, December 8, 2024, in Vandalia, MO at the Baptist Home of Tri- County. With a heart that inspired warmth and a spirit that encapsulated kindness, Carol's legacy radiates through her family and community.
Family and friends are invited to pay their respects and honor Carol's enduring legacy during a visitation held at the First Baptist Church of Vandalia on Wednesday, December 11, 2024, from 10:00 AM until 11:30 AM. The funeral service will follow at 11:30 AM, with Pastor Brian Lehenbauer officiating. Burial will follow in the Vandalia Cemetery.
Carol was united in marriage to George M. Johnson on July 3, 1954. He preceded her in death on August 25, 2005.
Carol's heart was anchored by her cherished family. She is survived by her loving sons, Bruce Michael Johnson and his wife Brenda Kay of Bates City, MO, and Dennis George Johnson and his wife Lori Lynn of Wentzville, MO. Her legacy continues to flourish through her adoring grandchildren: Rhett Michael Johnson and his wife Jessica, Shannon Kay Brown and her husband Jason, Ashley Louise Strother and her husband Logan, and Austin Michael Johnson. She also delighted in the company of her great-grandchildren: Audrey, Corinne, and Grant Johnson, along with Brooke, Brylee, and Grayson Brown. Additionally, she leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews whose lives were undoubtedly enriched by her presence.
While she graces the earth no longer, Carol will be profoundly missed by her loving family and friends, including those who long remember the laughter, love, and kindness she shared. She was preceeded in death by her devoted husband George M. Johnson, as well as her beloved parents and siblings, Richard Allen, Syble Simmons, James "Buck" Allen, Norma Clark, Marion Armistead, Robert W. "Pete" Allen, and Charles "Sunny" Allen.
Carol was a proud graduate of Wellsville High School, class of 1952, having established a foundation of knowledge that would serve her throughout her varied career. Carol's professional journey saw her flourishing in roles at the shoe factory and the brick plant, ultimately culminating in a distinguished career as a licensed Insurance Agent and Secretary at State Farm, a role she held with earnest dedication.
Beyond her professional endeavors, Carol was an enthusiastic participant in the vibrant fabric of her community. A beloved member of the Silvertone singing group and the LaFemme Art Club, she delighted in sharing her talents and passions with others. In her younger years, she found joy in the gentler pursuits of life, tending her picturesque rose garden and preserving the fruits of her labor through canning vegetables out of her garden, showcasing her dedication to both beauty and sustenance.
Avid readers often find solace in literature, and Carol was no exception. Her love for reading was matched only by her unparalleled baking skills; she shall be enduringly remembered for her delightful Candy Turtles, Peanut Clusters and luscious Coconut Cream Pie, which brought happiness to family gatherings and celebrations.
Carol was a faithful, loving member of the First Baptist Church of Vandalia, where she led the choir, played the piano and organ and was also a Sunday School Teacher for numerous years.
Pallbearers will be Rhett Johnson, Jason Brown, Austin Johnson, Logan Strother, Matthew Jones and Daryl Jennings.
Memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church of Vandalia, in care of Waters Funeral Home.
