Betty Jane Jarboe, age 95, of Vandalia, MO passed away peacefully at 9:00 pm Saturday, March 9, 2024, at The King's Daughters Home, in Mexico, MO with family around her.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 am Thursday, March 14, 2024, at Waters Funeral Home. Pastor Jamie Franke will officiate. Burial will be in the Vandalia Cemetery.
Visitation celebrating Betty's life will be held 10:00 am until the time of the service Thursday at the Waters Funeral Home.
Betty was born on November 21, 1928, at home to Roy and Ida Burgmeyer in St. Louis County, MO. She was the oldest of eight children., five boys and three girls. She married Robert Jarboe on December 30, 1950. To this union, two children, Richard and Karen were born. Bob preceded her in death in 2005 after 55 years of marriage.
Betty was a popular furniture upholsterer in Vandalia for over 42 years, working out of a shop attached to their garage Bob built for her. She helped raise a large garden for many years, sometimes selling produce such as strawberries. She was also a talented seamstress and enjoyed crocheting as well. She loved family gatherings and enjoyed time spent with her grand and great-grandchildren very much.
Betty is survived by her children, Richard Jarboe and wife, Gail of Bowling Green, Karen Jones and husband Kenneth of Vandalia; grandchildren, Steve Jarboe and wife Jill of Haymarket, VA, Laura Kent and husband Gregg of Bowling Green, Tiffany Hainline and husband Tyler of Vandalia, and Jennifer Harding and husband Robbie of Columbia, MO; great-grandchildren, Nathan Jarboe, Bailee and Lyla Kent, Cooper and Abigail Hainline and Mason Harding; sister, Ruth Ann Amundson of Beaverton, OR and brother, Jim Burgmeyer and wife Carole of Mentor, MN.
In addition to her parents and husband preceding her in death, Mrs. Jarboe was preceded in death by four brothers, Roy Jr., Dick, Bill, and Don Burgmeyer and one sister Doris. In 2023, she lost a special friend, Elton Wenneker.
Pallbearers will be Steve Jarboe, Gregg Kent, Tyler Hainline, Robbie Harding, Phillip Bibb and Terry Jarboe.
Memorial contributions may be made to the King's Daughters Home, Mexico, MO or the Vandalia First Baptist Church Food Pantry, in care of the Waters Funeral Home.
