Alice Marie Terry

Alice Marie Terry, age 87, of Vandalia, MO passed away at 10:19 am Friday, December 27, 2024, at her home.

A memorial service will be held 11:00 am Saturday, March 8, 2025, at Waters Funeral Home. Bro. Kenny Haddock will officiate. Inurnment will be held at a later date in Farber Cemetery. 

Visitation celebrating Alice's life will be held 10:00 am until time of the service Saturday, March 8, 2025, at Waters Funeral Home.

Alice was born on April 21, 1937, in Vandalia, MO the daughter of Palmer and Julia (Brewster) Stroker.

She was united in marriage to Floyd Leonard Terry on June 6, 1956, in Vandalia, MO. He preceded her in death on June 11, 1994.

Survivors include her special friend, Charlie McCurdy of Vandalia, MO; two sons, Floyd William Terry (Lori) of Pawnee, IL and John Palmer Terry (Margaret). Also surviving are her seven grandchildren, Alexander, John E., Victoria, Isabella, Cody, Austin and Melody, and great grandchild, Enoch, several nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to her parents and husband, Alice was preceded in death by her daughters, Rita June and Rosalind Elaine, infant daughter, Doris Lynn, infant son, James Palmer, step son, Bruce and three brothers, Francis Palmer, Bobby Wayne and William Eugene and sister Barbara Sue.

Alice attended rural Round Grove Elementary School and graduated from Vandalia High School in the class of 1955. After graduation, Alice went to work at Carl Goodins Five and Ten Store on Main Street in Vandalia. Later she worked at Glen Elders and Bobbi Brooks Garment Factories before taking time off to raise her family. After the loss of her husband, Alice went at work at Countryside Manor for eight years and then Tri-County Care Center for fifteen years until her retirement on August 21, 2016.

In her younger years until marriage, Alice enjoyed working with farm animals, driving the tractors to work the farm fields and working on her dads threshing crew by driving the tractor and threshing grain for the community farmers around the Vandalia area.

Alice found great joy in gardening, sewing, cooking and photography. She cherished the time spent with her family and special friends, creating lasting memories. Her love for these activities and the people around her will forever be remembered.

Alice was an active member of Elm Grove Baptist Church in rural Curryville, MO.

Memorial contributions may be made to the family to assist with funeral expenses, in care of Waters Funeral Home.
